Climate Change

The significant change in the average weather in due course of time on the earth or any parts of it is called climate change. Climate change occurs due to the fluctuations in the atmospheric temperature, wind flow, rainfall, etc. Climate does not change in day to day or month to month, it takes hundreds, thousands or millions of years. There are several causes of change in climate. Deforestation is one of the causes of climate change. It is the cutting down of trees in order to make land available for settlement, do business or for other purposes. But as we all know that trees absorbs carbon dioxide of atmosphere and gives us pure and fresh oxygen. But if we cut trees, there will not be sufficient trees to absorb carbon dioxide which will directly affect our health.

Secondly, industrial development is another cause of climate change. It is because it has increased the emission of green house gases like carbon dioxide, chlorofluorocarbon, methane, Sulphur dioxide, etc. which can trap heat from the sun as the gases form a layer in the upper atmosphere which absorb more heat that result in rise in global temperature. According to the statistics, it is seen that gases like carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxide, methane, etc. are increasing in atmosphere.

Another cause of climate change is excessive use of fossil fuels or petroleum products as it also produces carbon dioxide and other harmful gases. Due to climate change, snows are over-melting which will endanger the coastal areas and islands to submerge under water. Temperature has increased by 0.6 degree Celsius during the past few years. It is believed that by few centuries, many cities might have submerged under water due to over-melting of snow.

It is our duty to protect our habitable planet The Earth and prevent climate change. Population growth causes the deforestation and it causes change in the climate or global temperature as harmful gases will not be absorbed from the atmosphere. So, population growth must be controlled by spreading awareness of disadvantage of population growth. Secondly, we should decrease the excessive use of fossil fuels by establishing alternative sources of energy like hydroelectricity and encouraging its uses. Thirdly, we need to start afforestation and stop deforestation with an increase focus towards conservation of biodiversity. We should control factory and industrial pollutions and develop alternative source of energy.
