Dashain

Nepal is a multi-religious country as there are people of different religions living here in Nepal. They all have their own cultures and their own festivals that they celebrate with great joyness and happiness with each other. Schools as well as offices are closed during different festivals of different religions. Among them, most of the holidays are made during Hindu festivals. Dashain is one of the Hindu festival which is celebrated for ten days. There is holiday during Dashain to spend time with their family and with their friends. The holiday Dashain is supposed to be the longest holiday made for celebrating festival.



Dashain is the festival of Hindus in which Goddess Durga is worshipped. It remarks the victory of goodliness over the evils of the world. It is celebrated for ten days. The first day is callled Ghatasthapana, seventh day is called Saptami or Phulpati. Likewise, the ninth day of Dashain is known as Navratri and tenth day is known as Bijaya Dashmi. People of Nepal does not enjoy meat everyday as it is expensive to afford. But Dashain is the time of enjoying meat everyday. During Dashain, people even construct bamboo swings in the park or corners of roads. Every evening they enjoy swing. According to Hindus people, swinging even for few minutes out of a year relieves the earth of their weight.
